PRESS RELEASE

SUB: B&E Arrest
DATE: August 27, 2008

On Tuesday August 26th at approximately 5:30 PM the Acushnet Police Department responded to 44 Randall St. on a report of a past B&E. The homeowner, Arthur Moniz reported that his home had been burglarized and his 9mm handgun and ammunition were stolen.

Officers at the scene observed that the house was fairly neat and the only area that had been disturbed was the area of the house that the weapon had been stored in. A witness observed two familiar young males enter the house coupled with the lack of damage officers believed the suspects knew what they were after when they entered the house.

Officers located two 16 year-old male juvenile suspects from Acushnet. Police questioned the two juvenile suspects and the stolen handgun along with the ammunition was recovered at one of the juvenile’s home. The handgun was hidden below the engine compartment of a car on the property while the ammunition was located in the home.

The two juveniles were charged with 1) B&E Day time, 2) Larceny of a Firearm, 3) Possession of a large capacity Firearm, 4) Possession of large capacity feeding device, 5) Larceny from a building, 6) Conspiracy and 7) Unlawful possession of ammunition.

Officer Kevin Walsh lead the investigation and Officer Jeremy Fontes, Officer Louann Jenkinson, Detective James Costa and Detective John Bolarinho assisted him.

Sincerely,

Chief Michael G. Alves
