SUB: Attempted Murder

On November 22nd at approximately 6:50 PM the Acushnet Police Department received a 9-1-1 call from 100 Quaker Lane reporting an assault on their back deck. The caller reported one unidentified male stabbing another unidentified male.

The victim 33-yrs old Justin Francis of Quaker Lane Acushnet was originally stabbed in the doorway of his house by 23-yrs old Shane E. Vieira of 305 Central Ave. New Bedford. Mr. Francis then fled on foot with Mr. Vieira chasing him. Mr. Francis began knocking on the door of 100 Quaker Lane asking the resident to call the police when Mr. Vieira caught up to him and continued to attack Mr. Francis.

Mr. Francis was able to defend himself with a 2X4 that he found on the back deck of 100 Quaker Lane. Mr. Francis was able to fight back and struck Mr. Vieira with the 2X4 several times. Mr. Francis was stabbed multiply times by Mr. Vieira and when the police arrived on the scene both men were unconscious on the back deck as a result of their injuries.

Mr. Francis was air lifted from the scene to the Boston Medical Center and Mr. Vieira was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital. The altercation was allegedly over a prior altercation between the victim and the suspect.

Officer Keith Ashley and Detective Sergeant Thomas Carreau are conducting the ongoing police investigation. Mr. Vieira was charged with 1) Assault with intent to Murder and 2) A&B with a Dangerous Weapon.
